Our service starts with the inspection of your piece once delivered-dropped off in our workshop. Then, after the cast aluminum frame is taken apart from the worn sling, it is sent to North County Powder Coating where it will be sandblasted, primed with zinc and powder coated.
In the meantime, JVC Upholstery will be crafting a brand new sling.
Within 6 weeks, your fully refinished frame and custom made sling are put back together.
Step 1: Delivery or drop off of your Schultz projects to our workshop in Vista, CA. Please contact us for shipping prices

Step 3: Frame SandBlasting and Powder Coating
Sandblasting is one of most effective ways to strip and smooth a surface of any foreign material. Sandblasting uses compressed air to "blast" fine sand or other very abrasive, high grit materials through a nozzle and at the object desired to be sandblasted. These abrasive materials quickly remove the surface of the object leaving a clean surface ready for powder coating.
Another advantage of using a sandblaster to prep your items for powder coating is it gives the item a surface profile or "tooth". Think of sanding a piece of metal with sandpaper and you see the thousands of little scratches that it leaves. These scratches create high points and low points in the metal. This is called a profile. A profile allows the powder coat to seep into all of these high and low points which allow it adhere to the part much better than if the metal was completely smooth. While sandpaper does give your item profile, the sanding marks are in straight lines, a sandblaster creates a uniform textured finish all over the entire surface of your part, and in places that no sandpaper can reach.
Powder coating is specified for a high-quality, durable finish, improved efficiency, and simplified environmental compliance. Used as functional protective and decorative finishes, powder coatings are available in an almost limitless range of colors and textures, and offer excellent performance properties.
Powder coatings are based on polymer resin systems, combined with curatives, pigments, leveling agents, flow modifiers, and other additives. These ingredients are melt mixed, cooled, and ground into a uniform powder similar to baking flour. A process called electrostatic spray deposition is typically used to achieve the application of the powder coating to a metal substrate. This application method uses a spray gun, which applies an electrostatic charge to the powder particles, which are then attracted to the grounded part. After application of the powder coating, the parts enter a curing oven where, with the addition of heat, the coating chemically reacts to produce long molecular chains, resulting in high cross-link density. These molecular chains are very resistant to breakdown. Powder coated products are more resistant to diminished coating quality as a result of impact, moisture, chemicals, ultraviolet light, and other extreme weather condition
Each slings from the 1966 Leisure Collection features a set of two metal bars which are slid through the sling pockets located underneath the side vinyl straps of the chairs before being directly mounted to the frame. The slings feature as well, depending on the models, a cross bar or rod to insure for the sling to stay tight overtime.
Once the old sling has been fully dismantled, JVC upholstery custom makes a new one using the metal spare parts of your piece with the finest material for the double-hemmed and double-stitched sling to last using a commercial grade JUKI LU2810 sewing machine.
